Orchid Trip in Seagrove
Linda's Lecture   Orchid

On May 3, 2007 , fifteen FCMGVs traveled to Seagrove , NC , to visit Seagrove Orchids, a delightful orchid breeding and growing facility masterminded by Linda Thorne.

A morning with Linda and her prize winning orchids culminated in an orchid buying frenzy.  The Trip Committee is looking into more local visits such as Salem College and Old Salem itself.   One member suggested NC Zoo in Ashville, to tour the horticultural department .

Last year’s local trips included tours and workshops at Heaven Sent Roses, 7455 Reynolda Road , Pfafftown , North Carolina 27040-9766 . Cathy and Mike Tindall’s lovingly developed showcase rose garden is impressive at any time, but when everything is in bloom, even in the rain, it is a magical place.

On August 9, 2006 , the FCMGVs visited Bethabara Park in Winston-Salem for a tour led by Dan Johnson and Beverly Nesbit who have recently restored the 1760 medicine garden to peak condition. Dan and Beverly, both faculty members at Wake Forest University, are volunteer curators of this unique garden. A PowerPoint assisted lecture followed the garden tour. A pot luck luncheon at Bethabara Parks 1803 Herman Buttner house concluded the day’s activities.
