Forsyth County Master Gardener Volunteers

Travel Committee

Forsyth County MGV has a long history of offering trips to home and garden shows, overnight trips to major garden sites both in the continental United States and overseas as well as day-trips to sites of interest nearby and in Winston-Salem.

The Travel Committee currently chaired by Don Wolfe, along with committee members Jenny Craver, Vickie Hodges, Bethy Jackle and Pamela Stewart. Pam works in consultation with Agent Craig Mauney. Anyone interested in becoming a member of the committee or in helping facilitate a trip should contact either Don Wolfe wolfe@wfu.edu or Craig Mauney at craig_mauney@ncsu.edu.

 Plans for 2009 Travel

The MGV Travel Committee proposes the first overnight trip in several years; we want to visit the Philadelphia Flower Show in March 2009. This will be a 3 day, 2 night trip. Group tickets to the flower show are reasonably priced, and the committee is working hard to find affordable travel and accommodations. Watch for more news as plans develop

In April 2009, the committee offers a day-trip to Big Bloomers nursery and retail center in Sanford NC. We are scheduling this trip to offer gardeners a chance to purchase plants for spring planting. A specific date has not been determined.

Community Supported Agriculture caters to people who want locally raised fruits and vegetables. In June 2009, the committee plans a visit to the Southern Village Farmers’ Market in Carrboro NC. We also hope to visit one or two area CSA farms such as Elysian Fields Farm in Cedar Grove NC, Castle Rock Farm in Pittsboro and/or Maple Springs Gardens in Cedar Grove.
