Treasure Trees

of Forsyth County, North Carolina

About Us
Forsyth County's Treasure Tree Program identifies, documents and recognizes the largest, rarest, oldest and otherwise important tree and woody ornamental plants.

Advantages
Treasure Tree owners receive a Treasure Tree Certificate.
At the owner's option an attractive marker will be affixed to the tree.
Measured Trees will be publicly recognized and acknowledged.

Criteria
In order for a tree, tree grove or plant in Forsyth County to be considered for a Treasure Tree designation it must be;

Of historic, environmental, or otherwise significant value.
a species, variety, or cultivar proven to be relatively long-lived and adapted to our geographic region.
Of such health and condition as judged by the Treasure Tee Committee, to have a reasonable prospect of continuing useful life.

Trees may be located on either public or private property within Forsyth County and be nominated by anyone.

Viewing and measuring a tree will occur after a nomination form has been filed and permission has beenobtained from the owner.

Treasure Tree records shall be kept at the Extension Service and will be available to the public during normal business hours.

Purpose
To increase the public awareness of these valuable and irreplaceable trees.

To increase tree owners' awareness of the importance of trees and to encourage continued stewardship.

To help protect all trees from indiscriminate removal or damage due to development and urbanization.
